On Friday, January 28th I took my rank test in taekwondo. It was a very interesting experience, yet again, and I'm very glad that I passed and am now a blue-stripe (although, the form I must learn now is highly complicated and a pain in the butt - I've already gotten a charliehorse while doing said form). I did notice that our class (this test had a bunch of people from surrounding towns) was really the only one that remembered to say "Yes sir!" when our names were called and to kiup (a short, loud yelp) at the beginning/ending of our forms. That is both very good, it means our teacher has instilled the respect in us necessary for taekwondo, and very bad - nobody else has that respect.
Personally, in retrospect, my form wasn't all that great. I messed up at a couple spots during the form and was nervous. My sparring was better. I still need to work on just throwing something out there instead of thinking what I should throw. Hopefully, with practice of course, I'll be ready for the taekwondo tournament this March. I need to work on my new form and sparring in order to be the best that I can be.
*My instructor made the comment, on the ride home, that we should "strive for perfection, but settle for excellence". I like this thinking.
**Even though I don't like this picture because it is blurry and doesn't show all my patches or my blue-stripe very well... it still shows my accomplishments this weekend. Not only did I earn my blue-stripe, but I also sewed on my own patches. :D
